The highly anticipated 6-week Self-Development Training Workshop, organized by AUN Window on America as part of a Weekly Youth Development Series, commenced on March 25, 2023, with a focus on Building the Foundation for Personal Success. The event, facilitated by the United States Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria and American Spaces Nigeria, aims to equip young individuals with essential skills for personal and professional growth.
The first session featured two insightful presentations on Emotional Intelligence and Mental Health by Chioma Fakorede, a wellness consultant and mental health advocate, and Aisha Abdullahi Buba, a psychologist.
Chioma Fakorede, while speaking on the significance of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in achieving personal and career success, emphasized that EI enables individuals to communicate effectively, understand and manage emotions, and recognize the emotions of others. She highlighted some key strategies for improving emotional intelligence, such as developing self-awareness, mastering self-regulation, practicing empathy daily, and improving social skills.
Ms. Chioma further stressed that emotional intelligence is a skill that can be developed and encouraged participants to actively work on enhancing their interpersonal abilities.
In her contribution, Aisha Abdullahi Buba followed with a thought-provoking session on mental health and stress management, providing insights into maintaining emotional well-being and offering practical strategies for coping with stress. Her session succeeded in raising awareness about mental health challenges and encouraging young individuals to prioritize their emotional well-being.
The Self-Development Training Workshop will continue for five more weeks, covering topics such as financial and professional empowerment, personal growth, and the role of technology in modern success. Participants who complete the program will receive certificates of completion.
